Rivian is a new company, so all of their paint is very modern. They use a "basecoat and clearcoat" system, which means there is a layer of color covered by a shiny protective layer. You won't find any old-school "single-stage" paint here like you would on a classic car. While the paint looks great and has a lot of "metal flake" that sparkles in the sun, it is known for being a bit soft and thin in some spots.

Application Tips

This paint is designed to be very glossy, but it can sometimes have a bumpy texture called "orange peel" on larger panels. When you are fixing a scratch or spraying a part, work in thin, even layers to keep it looking flat and smooth. Since these are electric cars with many plastic and aluminum parts, the paint might dry at different speeds on different surfaces. Always make sure the temperature is steady and the air is dry before you start.
