In 1965, Chrysler wasn't just building cars; they were building "Forward Look" executive suites on wheels. Whether you were piloting a Newport, a New Yorker, or the legendary 300-L, you were commanding a massive slab of Detroit steel that demanded respect. This was the year of the "C-Body" redesign-clean, linear, and unapologetically huge. To cover all that real estate, Chrysler rolled out a staggering 26-color palette. Paint Health Check

We are firmly in the Single Stage Era here, folks. Back in '65, Chrysler used "Lustre-Bond" baked enamel. There's no clear coat to peel off because the shine and the pigment are one and the same. But here's the rub: that old-school enamel is prone to "Oxidation." If your Frost Turquoise Poly or Silver Mist Poly looks more like a dusty blackboard than a showroom gem, that's just dead paint sitting on the surface. These "Poly" (polychromatic) colors were packed with actual aluminum flakes that love to migrate to the top and turn chalky. If you don't feed this paint, the sun will literally cook the life right out of it.

Restoration Tip

Since this is a single-stage finish, the color goes all the way through, which is a blessing for restoration. Your mantra for 1965 paint is: "It needs wax or it dies." Before you reach for the spray gun to fix a scuff, try a heavy-duty solvent-based cleaner wax or a specialized paint restorer. You'd be surprised how much Patrician Gold Poly is hiding under ten years of oxidation. However, if you're down to the primer, don't try to spot-patch with modern thin-film enamels. Use a high-solids solvent base that mimics the thickness of the original factory bake to ensure that deep, "mile-deep" reflection matches the rest of the car.
