The Look

This rugged trim color belongs to the 2003 Grand Cherokee era. It defines the lower cladding and bumpers that give the Laredo and Limited models their two-tone, off-road character. It is a utility finish designed to withstand trail debris and road salt without the delicate ego of a high-gloss show car. Technical Details

This finish is a matte metallic, which makes it a unique beast. The tiny metal flakes provide depth and character, but the flattening agents in the paint remove the shine. You cannot polish or wax this surface. If you try to buff out a mistake, you will create a permanent shiny spot that ruins the factory look. This paint is a single-stage style for trim, meaning it provides its own protection without a separate glossy top layer. Getting the texture right is the main challenge here.

Best Practices

You can find your paint tag on the driver side door jamb or on the radiator support under the hood. Before you spray or dab Jeep Taupe (matt) (check for code WLP), you need to shake the container for a full minute. The metallic flakes and the flattening agents are heavy and sink to the bottom of the container. If you skip the shake, the color will come out too dark or too glossy. Test the color on the included card to confirm the shade and sheen. Keep the container moving as you work to ensure the metal flakes lay down in a level pattern. Allow for extra drying time between coats to let the matte effect settle.

Jeep codes are difficult to find. In the good old days, they hid them on top of the radiator support, under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS; only BS is the color code (also QBS, PBS, TBS, etc.). The first letter is a "Year Code". BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code. Lately, Jeep lists just BS.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can.
