Your Paint Color Profile

XB/NXB - Carbon Black Metallic

The Look

This is not the flat utility black found on older trail rigs. When Jeep launched the Renegade, they wanted a color that felt urban and professional while still holding onto a rugged identity. This finish delivers that balance. It is a deep black that reveals a layer of silver and charcoal flakes when the light hits the body lines. Since your Renegade has been on the road for several years, you might notice this color is good at hiding light road dust, but it requires a steady hand to restore that factory depth.

Technical Details

This finish is a metallic pearl, which makes it more complex than a standard solid color. The tiny flakes inside the paint reflect light at different angles to create a shimmering effect. If you apply the paint in a thick layer, those flakes will clump together and create dark, blotchy areas. This happens because the metallic particles do not have enough room to settle in a uniform way. To get a match that looks right, you need to apply the color in thin layers so the flakes can lay flat.

Best Practices

You can find your color information on the driver-side door jamb on a silver or white sticker under the barcode. Before you spray or dab Jeep Carbon Black Metallic (check for code XB/NXB), you need to shake it for 60 seconds to ensure the metallic flakes mix and do not settle at the bottom of the container. Test the color on the included card to see how the shimmer looks when dry. Whether you are working in your garage or in the shade, keep the container moving to prevent the paint from pooling. Give each layer enough drying time to set before moving on to the next, and finish with a clear coat to protect those flakes from the sun.

How to Find Your Jeep's Color Code

Jeep codes are difficult to find. In the good old days, they hid them on top of the radiator support, under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS; only BS is the color code (also QBS, PBS, TBS, etc.). The first letter is a "Year Code". BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code. Lately, Jeep lists just BS.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
