The Look

In 1969, Chrysler captured a specific kind of warmth with this finish that modern tans and browns simply cannot replicate. It avoids the aggressive, loud personality of the "High Impact" colors of the era, offering instead a sophisticated golden-bronze glow that fits a luxury Imperial just as well as it does a muscle-bound Coronet. Because it was used across the entire 1969 lineup, this shade is a time capsule for that year. It hides road dust better than a darker color, but its real strength is how it reacts to the sun, highlighting the sharp body lines and creases that defined Mopar design at the end of the sixties.

Technical Details

This is a metallic finish, which means the paint is loaded with tiny aluminum flakes designed to catch and reflect light. Metallics require a bit more attention than solid colors because those flakes need to lay flat and even to look right. If you apply the paint too heavily in one spot, the flakes will bunch together and create dark, blotchy patches that ruin the shimmer. Since your car has been on the road since the Nixon administration, the original paint has likely faded or shifted slightly in tone. Your fresh touch-up might look more vibrant than the surrounding area at first, but a light application helps the new metallic particles blend into the existing finish.

Best Practices

You can find your color information stamped on the metal fender tag located on the driver side inner fender inside the engine bay. Before you spray or dab Chrysler Light Bronze Poly (check for code T-3 (1969)), you must shake the container for at least one full minute. The heavy metallic particles in this mix settle quickly at the bottom, and if they aren't fully blended, the color will look dull or mismatched. Test the color on the included card to ensure the flake distribution looks even. Keep the container moving as you apply the paint to prevent the metallic from sagging, and give the surface plenty of drying time between thin layers to build the color correctly.

Chrysler paint codes can be difficult to find. In the good old days, they were on top of the radiator support, often hidden under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS, etc., with the first letter as a confusing "Year Code." BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can.
