Your Paint Color Profile

B-3 (1970) - Ice or Light Blue Metallic

The Look

1970 was a legendary year for Mopar, but while everyone else was busy looking at neon oranges and purples, this color offered a cool, sophisticated alternative. It fits the lines of a Chrysler 300 just as naturally as it does a Road Runner or a Charger. It has a crisp, frozen quality that reflects the sun with a sharp brightness. Because your car has lived a full life since 1970, this blue might show some character, but its light tone is excellent at hiding the fine dust and road grime that darker shades highlight.

Technical Details

This is a metallic finish, which means the look relies entirely on how the tiny flakes sit on the surface. If you apply the paint too heavily in one spot, the metallics will bunch together and create dark, blotchy patches. This effect, often called mottling, ruins the illusion of a factory finish. You want the flakes to lay flat and even so the light bounces off your repair the same way it does off the rest of the panel. Because this is a light color, it requires a steady hand and patience to build up the depth without creating a heavy edge.

Best Practices

You can find your paint code on the metal fender tag located on the driver side inner fender under the hood. Before you spray or dab Chrysler Ice or Light Blue Metallic (check for code B-3 (1970)), you must shake the container for at least two full minutes to wake up those heavy metallic particles at the bottom. Test the color on the included card to see how it reacts to your technique. Whether you are using a nozzle or a brush, keep the container moving to ensure the flow remains consistent. Apply several thin layers rather than one thick one, and give it plenty of drying time between passes to keep the finish crisp and level.

How to Find Your Chrysler's Color Code

Chrysler paint codes can be difficult to find. In the good old days, they were on top of the radiator support, often hidden under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS, etc., with the first letter as a confusing "Year Code." BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
