You own one of the final pieces of the Mercury legacy. During the final years between 2009 and 2011, this color served as the premium finish for the Milan, Mountaineer, and Mariner. It is a sophisticated pearl white that provides more depth than a standard fleet paint. Because your vehicle has faced the elements for over a decade, the finish has matured. This means your repair requires a patient approach to match the slight shift in tone that happens to older pearl surfaces.

Technical Details

This is a three-stage pearl finish rather than a solid white. It uses a base coat for the color and a translucent mid-coat to provide the shimmer. Pearl finishes are known for their sensitivity to thickness. If you apply too many layers of the pearl mid-coat, the repair area will appear darker or more yellow than the rest of the car. If you apply too few, the spot will look flat and lack the glow found on the surrounding panels. Success depends on the count of your layers.

Best Practices

Before you spray or dab Mercury White Platinum Tricoat (check for code UG), you need to shake it for 60 seconds. You can find this code on the silver certification sticker located on your driver's side door jamb. Working in your garage or in the shade is necessary to keep the metal cool. Test the color on the included card to determine how many layers of pearl you need to reach the right shade. Keep the container moving to prevent the paint from pooling or creating heavy spots. Ensure you allow enough drying time between each coat to keep the finish from becoming muddy.

How to Find Your Mercury's Color Code

Mercury places the paint color code on the drivers door jamb. On the color plate, the code appears near EX PT (Exterior Paint), typically above or below; sometimes the actual color is embossed on the plate and not where expected. The typical format is WT/M6640, but the M6640 part is rarely used and often only WT appears. WT corresponds to Performance White Clearcoat. Pre 1970 Mercurys can be problematic due to same-name, different-color issues and different codes.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can.
