Your Paint Color Profile

PX/RPX - Patriot Blue Pearl

The Look

Your 2017 Cherokee carries a color that was only around for a short window, making it a bit more unique than the standard silvers and whites found in every parking lot. This shade is a deep, moody blue that behaves like a chameleon. In the shade or under garage lights, it pulls toward a midnight navy, but once the sun hits it, those blue undertones really wake up. Because your Jeep has likely spent years on the road, you probably appreciate that this dark hue hides light road film and dust much better than a flat black would.

Technical Details

This is a pearl finish, which is a step up in complexity from a basic metallic. Instead of just metal flakes, it uses mica particles to create that sense of depth. The main challenge with a pearl like this is consistency. If you apply the paint too heavily in one spot, the mica particles can "clump" or sink, which leads to a mottled look where the color appears darker or blotchy in patches. Keeping your layers light is the key to making sure the finish looks uniform across the repair area.

Best Practices

You can find your color information on the driver's side door jamb, usually on a silver or white sticker listed next to the letters "PNT." Before you spray or dab Jeep Patriot Blue Pearl (check for code PX/RPX), you need to shake it for at least 60 seconds to ensure the heavy pearl particles are fully suspended. Always test the color on the included card to see how the flakes settle before you touch the car. Whether you are using a nozzle or a brush, keep the container moving and apply multiple thin coats. Give each layer plenty of drying time so the paint doesn't sag or pool, which preserves that factory-correct glow.

How to Find Your Jeep's Color Code

Jeep codes are difficult to find. In the good old days, they hid them on top of the radiator support, under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS; only BS is the color code (also QBS, PBS, TBS, etc.). The first letter is a "Year Code". BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code. Lately, Jeep lists just BS.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
