How to Find Your 2001 Jeep's Color Code

Jeep codes are difficult to find. In the good old days, they hid them on top of the radiator support, under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS; only BS is the color code (also QBS, PBS, TBS, etc.). The first letter is a "Year Code". BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code. Lately, Jeep lists just BS.

2001 Jeep Background Info

The 2001 Jeep Vibe

2001 was a year of legends standing their ground. You had the boxy Cherokee XJ taking its final bow, the Wrangler TJ proving it was the last of the true trail-eaters, and the Grand Cherokee WJ dominating the suburbs. It was an era of rugged utility before everything got rounded off and softened. We've focused our collection on the iconic survivors of this year-the colors that actually defined the trail. We're talking about the high-impact Flame Red, the sophisticated Steel Blue Pearl, and the essential Black for those classic hard tops. These weren't just colors; they were war paint for the weekend warrior.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to the "Peeling Era." By 2001, Jeep was fully committed to the basecoat/clearcoat system, but the chemistry back then wasn't always a match for a high-noon sun. If your Jeep spent its life outside, you're likely staring at delamination-that white, flaky "sunburn" where the clear coat decides to part ways with the color underneath. Once that clear starts to lift on the hood or the top of the fenders, the basecoat loses its shield and starts to dull out faster than a spent headlamp. If you see white edges around your rock chips, the clock is ticking.

Restoration Tip

The secret to keeping a 2001 finish alive is stopping the "lift." When you get a chip in your Black Crystal or Stone White, you can't just ignore it. Air and moisture will crawl under the edges of the clear coat and start peeling it back like a sticker. Seal your chips immediately. Use a fine-tip applicator to fill the void and lock the edges of the factory clear coat down to the metal. If you catch it early, you can stop a small chip from turning into a hood-sized headache. Don't wait for the flake; seal it before the clear decides to check out for good.
