D9B - Celestial Blue Pearl

The Look

Celestial Blue Pearl is a sophisticated choice that Kia used to elevate its premium lineup. It first made its mark on the Stinger and the K900 before becoming a favorite for the Sedona and the Carnival. Since your vehicle has likely spent a few seasons on the road, you may notice that this blue is deep and dark, almost black in the shade, but it wakes up with a vibrant sparkle once the sun hits it. It gives a heavy vehicle like the Carnival a much more executive presence compared to a standard flat blue.

Technical Details

This is a pearl finish, which means it contains mica flakes rather than just standard metallic bits. The benefit is a much richer depth that changes as you walk around the car. The risk here is mottling, or a blotchy appearance. If those pearl flakes do not lay down evenly, the finish can look striped or patchy. Because the base color is so dark, any unevenness in how the flakes settle will be very obvious to the eye. You have to be careful not to let the paint pool in one spot.

Best Practices

You can find your specific paint code on the silver or black sticker located on the driver's side door jamb. Before you spray or dab Kia Celestial Blue Pearl (check for code D9B), you need to shake it for 60 seconds. To get the best results, keep the container moving and work in thin, even layers rather than trying to cover the spot all at once. If you are working in a garage or the shade, make sure you have plenty of light to see how the color is building. Test the color on the included card to confirm the match and see how the flakes settle before you touch the car.

How to Find Your Kia's Color Code

Kia codes are easy to find as they are always on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: B3. Example mapping: B3 Mica Blue Metallic Clearcoat. Same Color Code, Different Name: Kia, like all manufacturers, uses the exact same color across many models and then will have a different color name for each model. This is why the color code is so important to order the correct paint. For example, B3, above we call Mica Blue Metallic Clearcoat. It could also be called Blue Clearcoat, Light Mist Clearcoat, etc.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
