PHT - Dark Purple

The Look

Jeep released this shade for the 2023 Wrangler as a limited-run tribute to a certain pop-culture icon, and it quickly became a collector favorite. Since your Wrangler has likely been on the trail or the road for a year or two, you know how much this color stands out in a sea of grayscale SUVs. It is a deep, royal tone that shifts from a dark grape to a nearly black shadow as the sun moves across the body panels. Because this was a one-year-only release, keeping your finish free of chips is the best way to preserve the resale value of such a rare model.

Technical Details

This finish is a pearl, which means it relies on microscopic flakes to create that signature depth and shimmer. Pearls are beautiful, but they can be temperamental during a repair. If you apply the paint too heavy in one spot, the pearl particles will clump together and make the touch-up look like a dark bruise rather than a clean match. You need the flakes to lay flat and spread out to catch the light correctly. This requires patience and a focus on thin layers rather than trying to cover the damage in a single pass.

Best Practices

Open your driver-side door and look at the manufacturing sticker on the jamb to verify your color details. Before you spray or dab Jeep Dark Purple (check for code PHT), you need to shake it for 60 seconds. This is the only way to lift the heavy pearl pigments that settle at the bottom of the container. Test the color on the included card to see how the flakes look once they dry. When you are ready to work on the car, keep the container moving to ensure the finish stays uniform. Respect the drying time between each coat so the next layer doesn't melt into the first and ruin the metallic alignment.

How to Find Your Jeep's Color Code

Jeep codes are difficult to find. In the good old days, they hid them on top of the radiator support, under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS; only BS is the color code (also QBS, PBS, TBS, etc.). The first letter is a "Year Code". BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code. Lately, Jeep lists just BS.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
