Product details

Medium-sized scratches and chips often need more paint — and more protection — than a single product can provide, especially on wide scuffs, bumper corners, or deeper damage. Our 2 oz Tricoat Paint Bottle Kit gives you the everything you need to complete a full, layered repair while still keeping the process manageable for DIY users.

This kit includes primer, basecoat color in Wicked Red Denim Tricoat, a translucent midcoat in Wicked Red Denim Tricoat clearcoat, and cutting creme, allowing you to repair deeper chips correctly — especially where metal may be exposed. The 2 oz bottle provides enough paint for multiple medium-sized repairs. The included brush applicator offers controlled coverage for wider scratches and scuffs, or this paint can be thinned and used in a spray gun. Cutting Creme helps refine and improve the final finish once the repair has cured.

Each kit is mixed fresh to your Harley-Davidson's factory color code for an exact match. With primer for adhesion and corrosion protection, plus clearcoat for gloss and UV durability, this system delivers a stronger, longer-lasting repair than color alone.

How to Find Your Harley-Davidson's Color Code

A color code is unlikely to appear on a Harley Davidson; often only the color name is listed. The code can be determined by Harley-Davidson. If there is no color code, the relevant reference is the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number. Finding a code on the bike is uncommon, so identification typically relies on Harley-Davidson or, failing a code, the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) formula.

Better, Cheaper, Faster!

The primer, touch up paint, clear coat and tack cloth arrived within the specified delivery time. I should have ordered more than one primer spray can since I had more to paint than just the bumper though unknown at the time of ordering. The 3 touch up paint spray cans were well packaged though 2 of the can came with the cap and push button spray button loose in the box. Should not be an issue though. The instructions on the company website were very helpful since this was my first attempt at painting body parts to my 20 year old vehicle. I'm expect to use PaintScratch when I do some minor body work to my wife's vehicle. I'm glad PaintScratch is able to provide this service. Reason I chose this business: I used a National auto paint company for some roof repainting and a little body work on the same vehicle however within 2 years the roof and side panel began to rust again and the clear coat peeled off in over 6 large areas of the roof. I paid over $1,800 for a job result that was worse off than before it was painted. PaintScratch offered another option that was more cost effective though it does require a DIY person to take time and care with the preparation and paint application. Our family drives old vehicles (20-30 years old) which I maintain and/or repair all mechanical components. They run well. PaintScratch is providing me an opportunity to make the vehicles look a lot better now too.

Accurate Color Match

I picked my VW Beetle Red Rock color using the color code, and PaintScratch provided an accurate color paint along with the primer and clear coat. The base coat was accurate and cost less than a competitor that required a more expensive and difficult tricoat application. As a first time automotive painter, they made the selection easy and took away the guesswork in mixing in stuff like activators or reducers. The primer and base coats went on easily with a stand-alone household HVLP spray gun from Amazon, but the clear did not go on smooth. I will be doing a good amount of wet sanding and buffing to get an acceptable finish. I guess that is a down-side to the ease of not having to mix your own paint. I didn't have to learn how to mix according to the painting conditions (temperature, humidity), but that may have been the reason for the bad orange peel result. There's way more to getting good results, so the orange peel could very well have been due to bad technique. While it will take considerably more effort to get a good smooth finish, I am confident that the end result will be great and for way less money than paying for a paint job. While their tutorials for fixing scratches seem adequate, I wish they provided more instruction for spraying paint and clear coat (stirring and spraying techniques, flash times, cure times, wet sanding and buffing/polishing tips, tips for painting in less than optimum conditions, etc.).

Well worth the money

Don't get me wrong, paint pens have their place, but with the damage I was trying to repair they didn't work too well. Fortunately, I was able to empty them, and use my air brush to repair my paint. Fortunately, it's worked out well so far I just need to fine sand, compound, and polish my repair. But in my absolutely honest opinion, if you have a scratch that goes to bare metal, and it's in a place where it's easily seen; go spend $100 on a hobby airbrush, and buy a proper jar of paint. It will always come out significantly better than what you can do with paint pens. With all that said, PaintScratch has the exact paint I need for my car, and they packaged everything very well, and have a great set of instructions on the website. The kit I bought was well worth the money, just saying I wish I had got a jar rather than a paint pen. That said, this paint is really hard to clear out of an airbrush lol. But 3M adhesive remover works wonders, just a nice little tip if anyone has overspray/running/clogged stuff. Reason I chose this business: I used duplicolor on my dodge a few years back, and holy hell did that stuff look bad. Granted, my car probably had really faded clear coat, and I didn't prep right. But that stuff ran like crazy. Again, a proper air brush, even a cheap one is really the way to go, and paintscratch has the proper paint.
