The Look

This is the ultimate "quiet luxury" of the early 90s. It isn't quite brown, and it isn't quite grey. It sits in that sophisticated middle ground. It covered every flagship model from the Fleetwood to the Seville. It's a workhorse color. It hides road dust and water spots better than almost any other shade from the era. On a large body Cadillac, it looks expensive without shouting.

Technical Details

This is a metallic finish. That means there are tiny flakes swimming in the pigment. Metallics are temperamental. If you apply the paint too thick, the flakes sink and the color looks too dark or muddy. If you go too thin, it looks grainy. You want even, thin layers to keep those flakes standing up straight. It needs a clear coat to bring out the depth. Without it, the finish will look flat and won't match the rest of the car.

Best Practices

Before you spray or dab Cadillac Medium Taupe Metallic (check for code 63/WA9811), you need to shake the container for at least sixty seconds. Those metallic flakes settle at the bottom quickly.
