Your Paint Color Profile

DPBMU - Midnight Blue (920344)

The Look

You are looking at one of the most deceptive shades in the Yamaha catalog. On a cloudy day or in the back of your garage, this color passes for a deep, ink-like black. The moment you pull your bike into the sunlight, the character shifts completely. It reveals a rich, dark blue with a distinct purple undertone that defines the mid-2000s "Team Blue" aesthetic. Since this was a staple for almost every model in 2007, from the R1 to the cruisers, your bike carries a piece of Yamaha racing heritage that is built on being seen only when the light hits just right.

Technical Details

This is a metallic finish, which means the heavy lifting is done by tiny flakes suspended in the blue pigment. Metallic paints are temperamental because those flakes love to sink to the bottom of the container. If you apply it without a perfect mix, you will end up with "mottling"-which looks like dark and light stripes across your repair. This happens because the metal particles aren't evenly distributed. To avoid a blotchy finish, you have to be disciplined about your technique; the depth of the blue depends entirely on how those flakes lay down on your frame or fairing.

Best Practices

Before you spray or dab Yamaha Midnight Blue (920344) (check for code DPBMU), you need to shake it for 60 seconds. You can usually find your color identity sticker on the frame rail or tucked under the seat. If you have a pen or a brush, don't just "paint" it on; use thin layers to build the color up. If you are using a can, maintain a consistent spray distance to ensure the metallic flakes land evenly. Always test the color on the included card first to see how the purple undertones react to your local lighting. Once you are satisfied, apply your layers and give each one plenty of drying time to avoid trapping moisture or solvents under the surface.

How to Find Your Yamaha's Color Code

Yamaha can determine the paint color code by phone. If there is no color code, the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number can be provided.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
