Volkswagen Golf Touch Up Paint (178 OEM Colors)

The Color Breakdown

Volkswagen has never been shy about their palette. With a massive 177 colors recorded for the Golf, they've given us everything from the legendary, sun-scorched Tornado Red to the "it's-definitely-yellow" Ginster Yellow and the sophisticated Carbon Steel Grey Metallic. Whether you're driving a classic Mk4 in Indigo Blue Pearl or a modern Mk7 in Lapiz Blue, it's clear the designers really went for it. They've essentially provided a color for every personality, from "Stealth Mode" to "Look At Me."

What to Watch For

While VW paint looks fantastic in the showroom, it has a bit of a reputation for being a "chip magnet." The Golf's upright front end and the specific lip where the roof meets the windshield are prime real estate for road debris to do its worst. You might also notice the clear coat being a little shy on the plastic bumpers or side mirrors-it tends to peel if left to the elements too long. To find your specific matching code, head to the back of the car. Pop the hatch and look under the trunk carpet near the spare tire well; you're looking for a white sticker with a 4-digit code (like LA7W or LC9Z). If it's not there, check the underside of the trunk lid or the first page of your Service Book.

Driveway Repair Tip

Because so many Golf colors are Pearls or Metallics-like Deep Black Pearl-your biggest secret weapon is the "The Great Shake." Give your touch-up bottle a solid two-minute workout to wake up those metallic flakes so they don't all sit at the bottom. When you're ready to apply, don't try to be a hero and fill the whole chip in one go. Use the tip of your applicator to dab a tiny amount into the center of the chip and let it flow to the edges. It's much better to do three thin "whisper-light" layers than one big gloopy mountain that takes three days to dry. Patience is the difference between a repair that disappears and one that stands out.
