Welcome to the Thin Paint Era. By 2021, those factory robots had "efficiency" down to a cold, hard science. They spray just enough clear coat to make the rig sparkle on the showroom floor, but not a micron more than necessary. While colors like Regal Blue Metallic or Green Metallic look incredible under the sun, that thin factory shell is vulnerable. You'll likely see "craters" where small pebbles have punched right through the basecoat, and if you've spent too much time in the Arizona heat, that Ebony Satin might be starting to show the dreaded "crow's foot" checking on the front cap.

Restoration Tip

When you're patching up a chip in your Silver Blue or Sunlit Sand Base, remember: you aren't frosting a cake. Since the factory paint is so thin, a big, heavy-handed blob of touch-up paint will stick out like a sore thumb. You need to mimic that "robot efficiency." Apply the paint in thin, controlled layers, letting each one dry before adding the next. Build the depth slowly until it sits flush with the surrounding surface. If you see a chip starting to lift at the edges, seal it immediately-in this era, once the clear coat starts to delaminate, it doesn't stop until it hits the bumper.
