What to Watch For

After a few decades on the road, these finishes usually show their age in two ways: "chalking" and flaking. The single-stage paints, like Rallye Red, tend to fade into a dusty pink if they've spent too much time in the sun. Meanwhile, the metallic "Mist" colors can sometimes develop small bubbles around the wheel wells or the door handles. To find your specific color match, go on a scavenger hunt in the engine bay. Look for a small metal ID plate on the firewall (the wall behind the engine) or a sticker on the radiator support.
