Your Paint Color Profile

1071/P1 - Bordeaux Red Metallic

The Look

If you are staring at a classic Trooper or a Giugiaro-styled Impulse, you already know this color defines an era of rugged sophistication. This is not a bright, loud red. It is a deep, wine-soaked hue that gave the early 1980s Isuzu lineup a premium edge. On the I-Mark or the P'up truck, it provides a grounded, muscular appearance that hides light road grime surprisingly well. Because your vehicle has likely seen four decades of sun, the original finish might look a bit darker or flatter than the fresh paint in your hand, but the depth is still there.

Technical Details

This is a true metallic finish, which means it relies on tiny flakes to catch the light and provide that signature depth. Metallics are notoriously picky. If you hold your hand still for too long, the flakes will cluster and create dark, blotchy patches or "stripes" in the finish. Before you spray or dab Isuzu Bordeaux Red Metallic (check for code 1071/P1), you need to shake the container for at least sixty seconds to ensure those flakes are suspended evenly. To get a consistent look, you must maintain a steady flow and keep the container moving across the surface in even passes.

Best Practices

You will usually find your paint code on a metal ID plate riveted to the firewall inside the engine garage, though occasionally Isuzu tucked it into the glove box. Before you commit to the metal, test the color on the included card to see how the metallic flake settles. Since this is an older color, it often requires a clear coat to bring out the "metallic" shimmer and match the gloss of the surrounding panels. Give the paint plenty of drying time between layers-patience is the only way to avoid runs. If you are using a pen or brush for small chips, dab the paint rather than wiping it to keep the metallic particles from dragging into a smear.

How to Find Your Isuzu's Color Code

Isuzu can be contacted to determine the color code. If there is no color code, the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number may be requested. Common places to look are on the drivers door jamb, the trunk and under the hood.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
