Where to find Genesis color code

ensuring the right match

Find Your Genesis Paint Code

Genesis codes are relatively easy to find as they are normally on the drivers door jamb, which is the usual location. Some Hyundai models do manage to hide their color codes in the engine compartment, so if it is not on the drivers door jamb, finding it can be tougher. The typical color code format is: 3E, which corresponds to: Blue Onyx Metallic Clearcoat. Some later Hyundais use a three character code.

Genesis Background Info

About Genesis Paint

Modern Genesis cars use a high-quality clearcoat that is designed to stay deep and shiny for many years. The newer models often use a very hard outer layer that protects the paint from the sun and small scratches. While the newest cars have this tough finish, older models from the early 2010s had slightly softer paint that can be easier to scratch if you aren't careful when washing them.

Application Tips

Genesis paint is thick and covers scratches very easily in just one or two thin layers. It flows smoothly onto the surface, which helps the repair look flat and professional. If your car has a "matte" finish (which means it is not shiny), be very gentle and do not rub the paint too hard, as this can accidentally create a shiny spot that won't go away.

Quick Summary

  • Paint Feel: Hard paint. This means the surface is very durable and holds its shine well, though it takes a little more effort to polish out a deep scuff.
  • Best Advice: Always look for the paint code on the sticker inside the driver's side door jam. Genesis has many similar shades of white, black, and gray, so using the exact code is the only way to get a perfect match.
  • Pro Tip: If your paint has "pearl" or "metallic" in the name, shake the paint bottle for at least two minutes before using it to make sure the tiny sparkles are mixed in evenly.
