In this era, your biggest enemy isn't just the rust-it's air getting under the edges of your remaining finish. To keep that factory Silver or Tan from lifting further, you need to seal every single stone chip the second you see it. If you let moisture and oxygen get between that basecoat and the clear, the failure will spread like a bad rumor across the whole panel. Clean the chip, dab our matched color in, and level it off. By sealing the wound, you're effectively "nailing down" the edges of the clear coat to keep the rest of the hood from looking like a topographical map.
