Ford Edge Paint Info
The Color Breakdown
Ford didn't hold back with the Edge, racking up a massive 108 colors over the years. They've given us everything from the deliciously named White Chocolate Tricoat and Cinnamon Metallic to the high-energy Orange Crush Effect. While it might seem like they offer "50 shades of gray" with names like Magnetic, Lithium, and Real Steel, there's usually a hidden pearl or metallic flake in there that makes these colors pop when the sun hits them.
What to Watch For
Before you start, you'll find your paint code on the driver's side door jamb. Look for a sticker with "EXT PNT" followed by a two-digit code (like J7 or UG). Now, for the "Edge" specific reality check: keep a close eye on the front edge of your hood. Because many Edges feature aluminum hoods, they are prone to tiny bubbles forming under the paint near the lip. If you see a bubble, don't just paint over it-give it a gentle pick with a toothpick to remove any loose flakes first, or your fresh touch-up will just peel off with the old bubble.
Driveway Repair Tip
Since so many Ford colors-like Ruby Red or Star White-are Tricoats (meaning they have a base coat and a mid-layer of "sparkle"), they require a bit of patience. The secret is in the shake: shake your touch-up bottle for a full 60 seconds. These heavy metallic and pearl flakes love to settle at the bottom. When applying, use the "less is more" rule. Dab a tiny amount into the center of the chip and let it flow to the edges; it's much easier to add a second thin layer than it is to fix a giant, sagging glob.
