Your Paint Color Profile

V (1967) - Riviera Charcoal Poly

The Look

This is mid-century muscle at its most sophisticated. It isn't a loud, screaming red or a flat rental-car silver. It is a deep, moody gray that gives the 1967 Riviera a heavy, expensive presence. While it was available for All Models that year, it feels most at home on the long, sweeping lines of the E-body. In the shade, it looks almost black. In the sun, the metallic flakes wake up. It makes the car look like it was carved from a block of industrial lead.

Technical Details

This is a metallic finish. That means "Poly" isn't just a fancy name-it's a warning. Metallic particles are heavy. They want to sink to the bottom of your container and stay there. If you don't mix this properly, you will end up with a patchy, uneven mess that looks like dark tiger stripes. You need to be consistent. If you vary your spray distance or flow too much, the metal flakes will settle at different angles, causing the color to look different from one spot to the next.

Best Practices

Before you touch up your Buick Riviera Charcoal Poly (code V (1967)), find the metal data plate riveted to the driver's side of the cowl under the hood to confirm your match. Shake your container for at least sixty seconds. Then shake it more. Test the color on the included card before you touch the car. If using a spray, keep the container moving in steady, overlapping passes. If using a pen or brush, use thin layers. Never try to fill a deep chip in one go. Give it plenty of drying time between applications to avoid sagging. Work in a cool garage out of direct sunlight for the best results.

How to Find Your Buick's Color Code

Buick used many different locations over the years, so the paint color plate can be hard to find. GM did not standardize the location. Commonly cited spots are the glove box or the spare tire well; otherwise it may be anywhere. The code format typically looks like 51/WA316N, usually preceded by BC/CC (BC/CC 51 or BC/CC 316N), and two-tone entries may show U or L (BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N).

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
