Your Paint Color Profile

LC3X - Muranorot

The Look

This isn't the loud, bright red you find on a track car. It is a deep, wine-colored pearl that gave the Polo and Bora an upscale, executive feel during the early 2000s. Since your car has likely been on the road for two decades, this shade has probably developed a lot of character, holding onto its black-cherry depth even as the finish matures. It is a sophisticated color that hides road dust better than a standard solid red, but it needs a careful touch to keep that glow consistent across the bodywork.

Technical Details

This finish is a pearl effect, meaning it contains translucent mica particles that catch the light differently than standard metallic flakes. These particles create a sense of depth that shifts as you move around the vehicle. The primary challenge with this paint is mottling, which occurs if the paint is applied too heavily in one spot. If the mica flakes don't lay flat because the paint is too wet, you will see dark, cloudy patches or stripes. Applying thin, controlled layers is the best way to keep the finish uniform and prevent the pearl from looking uneven.

Best Practices

Before you spray or dab Volkswagen Muranorot (check for code LC3X), you need to shake it for 60 seconds to fully mix the heavy pearl pigments. You can find your paint code on a white paper data sticker located in the spare tire well or on the inside cover of your service book. Test the color on the included card to see how well it matches the current state of your paint. To prevent dark spots and ensure an even flow, keep the container moving at all times and allow for the full drying time between layers.

How to Find Your Volkswagen's Color Code

Volkswagen paint codes can be difficult to find. Most are located around the spare tire area, printed on a paper color id tag that is guaranteed to fall off and disappear just when needed; not on a metal plate in the driver door jamb. Typical format: LD7X/2R (two codes: LD7X and 2R). LD7X corresponds to Platinum Gray Metallic Clearcoat; 2R is also used for the same color. Really old Volkswagen can be nearly impossible to figure out.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
