Your Paint Color Profile

1D2 - Thunder Cloud Metallic

The Look

This mid-tone grey defined the early era of the Scion xB, giving the boxy "toaster" a sleek, industrial edge that still looks modern today. It is a workhorse of a color because its neutral metallic base is incredibly forgiving against the road grime and dust that accumulate during daily driving. Since your car has been on the road since the mid-2000s, you will find that this shade ages gracefully, resisting the obvious fading often seen in brighter reds or deep blacks.

Technical Details

This is a metallic finish, which means it is packed with tiny light-reflecting flakes. These particles are what give the paint its depth, but they require a steady hand to lay down correctly. If you apply the paint too heavily in one spot, the metallic flakes will sink and bunch up, creating a dark, muddy look known as mottling. To keep the finish looking crisp and factory-fresh, you want to focus on light, even layers that allow the metallic particles to sit uniformly across the surface.

Best Practices

Before you spray or dab Scion Thunder Cloud Metallic (check for code 1D2), you need to shake it for 60 seconds to ensure the metallic flakes are fully suspended in the paint. You can verify your color match by looking at the identification sticker located on the driver's side door jamb. Always test the color on the included card before applying it to your car to ensure the shade and flake density match your existing finish. To avoid streaks or spots, keep the container moving throughout the process and work in a garage or the shade to maintain a consistent drying time.

How to Find Your Scion's Color Code

Scion is manufactured by Toyota and shares many of the same color codes. On all models, the color ID plate on the drivers door jamb shows C/TR followed by the paint code. Example: C/TR 3P1 FA09, where the color code is 3P1; FA09 has nothing to do with the color code and is an interior option code. The same paint appears across models under different names (e.g., 3P1 is Impulse Red Metallic Clearcoat). The code is also available from a dealer via the VIN.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
