Your Paint Color Profile

41V - Desert Silver Metallic

The Look

This is a warm, resilient silver that defined the era of the "Saabaru." Since this color was a staple for the 9-2X and other models around 2005, it carries a champagne undertone that sets it apart from the colder, blue-tinted silvers of that decade. Your car has spent two decades on the road, and you will find that this finish is excellent at hiding road dust and minor surface wear. It is a forgiving color for a daily driver that maintains a clean appearance even when you miss a wash.

Technical Details

This finish is a metallic, which means it contains tiny light-reflecting flakes that give the paint depth. When you repair a metallic surface, the main challenge is keeping those flakes from bunching up. If the paint goes on too heavy, the silver can look blotchy or mottled. This creates dark shadows where the metal particles have settled in uneven patterns. Success with this color depends on how you distribute those flakes across the repair area so they catch the light the same way as the original finish.

Best Practices

Before you spray or dab Saab Desert Silver Metallic (check for code 41V), you need to shake it for 60 seconds. Find your code on the driver's side door jamb or, if you own a 9-2X, on the driver's side firewall under the hood. To keep the metallic flakes from sinking to the bottom, keep the container moving while you work. Test the color on the included card to ensure the shade matches the current state of your car, as sun exposure can change the tone over twenty years. Use several thin layers rather than one heavy coat and allow for plenty of drying time in a garage or a patch of shade.

How to Find Your Saab's Color Code

Saab paint codes are normally on the drivers door jamb. On old Saabs, color codes are about impossible to find; other cited locations include the engine compartment and the trunk area (inside the transmission is a joke). Typical code format: 230, which corresponds to: 230 Scarabe Green Metallic Clearcoat. Same Color Code, Different Name: the same paint across models may be called Green Clearcoat or Mystic Green Clearcoat.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
