Technical Details

This is a mica tricoat, which is one of the more involved finishes to repair. Unlike a standard metallic, a tricoat uses a translucent middle layer to create its signature glow. The biggest risk with this finish is the thickness of your application. Since the color builds with every pass, applying too much of the mid-coat can make the repair look darker or more "muddy" than the original factory paint. You are aiming for thin, uniform layers to ensure the mica flakes lay down correctly without bunching up or creating dark spots in the finish.

Best Practices

Before you spray or dab RV-Other Velocity Red Mica Tricoat (check for code 27A), you need to shake it for 60 seconds to ensure the mica particles are evenly distributed. You can typically find your paint code on a silver sticker located in the driver-side door jamb or inside one of the wardrobe cabinet doors in the coach. Test the color on the included card first to see how many coats of the mid-layer you need to achieve the right depth. Keep the container moving at a steady pace to prevent the mica from pooling in one area. Work in your garage or a well-shaded spot, and allow plenty of drying time between your light coats to prevent the paint from sagging.
