Technical Details

This is a metallic finish, which means it relies on thousands of tiny metal flakes to catch and reflect light. These flakes are your biggest challenge. If the paint goes on too thick, the flakes clump together and create dark, cloudy patches known as mottling. To get a factory look, you have to ensure those particles lay flat and even. It is a finish that rewards patience and thin applications rather than trying to cover a scratch in a single heavy pass.

Best Practices

Porsche hides your paint information on a white paper sticker, usually found in the spare tire well under the trunk floor or inside the cover of your maintenance booklet. Before you spray or dab Porsche Aurum Metallic (check for code M1R/U8), you must shake the container for a full minute. Those heavy metallic flakes settle at the bottom and will stay there unless you mix them thoroughly. Test the color on the included card to see how the flakes settle. Work in a cool garage out of direct sunlight. Keep the container moving at all times to avoid puddles and give the paint plenty of drying time between layers.
