Your Paint Color Profile

6E/5941 - Wheat Metallic

The Look

Lincoln Wheat Metallic defined mid-eighties luxury. This warm, champagne-gold hue graced every model in the 1984 lineup, from the stately Town Car to the sharp-edged Continental. Since your vehicle has been on the road since the era of synth-pop, the paint probably carries some stories. It is a forgiving shade that masks road grime well, but it demands respect during the repair process because its personality shifts depending on the light.

Technical Details

This is a metallic finish, which means the paint is packed with microscopic flakes that catch the sun. These flakes are heavy and sink to the bottom of your container. If you do not mix them thoroughly, the color will look dull or patchy once it dries. Before you spray or dab Lincoln Wheat Metallic (check for code 6E/5941), you need to shake it for at least sixty seconds. Metallics are prone to mottling-those dark, cloudy streaks-if you apply the paint too heavily in one spot. Keeping your layers thin is the only way to ensure the flakes lay down evenly.

Best Practices

You can find your paint code on the driver's side door jamb; look for the label near the latch. To get the best results, work in your garage or a patch of shade away from direct wind. Test the color on the included card before touching your car to confirm the shade matches the current state of your aged finish. When applying, keep the container moving to avoid puddles. If you use a pen, use light dabs rather than long strokes. Give each layer adequate drying time so the metallic particles can set exactly where they land.

How to Find Your Lincoln's Color Code

Lincoln color codes are always on the drivers door jamb. On the color plate, EX PT (for Exterior Paint) appears, with the paint code located above or below; sometimes the actual color is embossed on the plate and not where expected. Typical format: WT/M6640, though M6640 is rarely shown and typically only WT appears. WT corresponds to Performance White Clearcoat. Pre 1970 Lincolns can be problematic due to same names with different codes.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
