Your Paint Color Profile

A (1964) - Raven Black

The Look

Raven Black defined the 1964 Lincoln lineup, serving as the definitive choice for the iconic Continental and its suicide-door stablemates. This is not just a dark paint; it is a formal, deep pigment that turned these massive cars into rolling pieces of polished obsidian. When you see this color on a 1964 model, you are looking at the peak of mid-century executive style. It provides a heavy, authoritative presence that demands attention without needing flashy accents.

Technical Details

This is a solid finish, meaning it contains no metallic flakes or pearl additives to distract the eye. While this gives you an incredible, ink-like depth, it also makes the paint very unforgiving. Solid blacks act like a mirror and will highlight every ripple or scratch on the bodywork of your car. You do not have to worry about metallic particles clumping or looking uneven, but you must be mindful of your environment. Because this color absorbs heat and shows every speck of dust, you should work in a cool garage or the shade to prevent the paint from drying too quickly or trapping debris.

Best Practices

You can find your paint code on the data plate attached to the rear edge of the driver's door or the door pillar. Before you spray or dab Lincoln Raven Black (check for code A (1964)), you need to shake it for 60 seconds. This ensures the heavy black pigments are fully integrated so the repair does not look translucent. Keep the container moving as you apply the paint to maintain an even flow and avoid buildup. Always test the color on the included card before you touch the car, as the original paint on your Lincoln has likely shifted in tone after sixty years of exposure to the sun.

How to Find Your Lincoln's Color Code

Lincoln color codes are always on the drivers door jamb. On the color plate, EX PT (for Exterior Paint) appears, with the paint code located above or below; sometimes the actual color is embossed on the plate and not where expected. Typical format: WT/M6640, though M6640 is rarely shown and typically only WT appears. WT corresponds to Performance White Clearcoat. Pre 1970 Lincolns can be problematic due to same names with different codes.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
