BR - Karat Gold Metallic

The Look

This shade was a signature choice for the launch of the 2015 MKC, intended to separate the new crossover from the more common silvers and blacks on the road. It is not a gaudy or yellow gold; rather, it is a sophisticated, muted champagne that shifts its personality depending on the light. Since your vehicle has been on the road since 2015, the original finish has likely weathered some UV exposure. This gold is excellent at hiding light road dust, but it will show every bit of texture if your repair isn't smooth.

Technical Details

This is a metallic finish, meaning it is packed with tiny reflective flakes that give the car its glow. The biggest challenge with metallics is mottling, which happens when those flakes bunch up and create dark, cloudy spots. This usually occurs if the paint is applied too heavily or if the surface is too cold. Because the flakes reflect light at specific angles, any unevenness in how you apply the paint will be visible once it dries. You want the flakes to lie flat and even to match the rest of the panel.

Best Practices

You can find your color information on the driver's side door jamb, listed next to the "EXT PNT" heading. Before you spray or dab Lincoln Karat Gold Metallic (check for code BR), you must shake the container for a full minute to get those metallic flakes off the bottom. Test the color on the included card to see how the metallic settles before you touch the car. Apply the paint in thin, light layers and keep the container moving to ensure the flakes distribute evenly. Give each layer plenty of drying time so the finish stays crisp and doesn't become muddy.

How to Find Your Lincoln's Color Code

Lincoln color codes are always on the drivers door jamb. On the color plate, EX PT (for Exterior Paint) appears, with the paint code located above or below; sometimes the actual color is embossed on the plate and not where expected. Typical format: WT/M6640, though M6640 is rarely shown and typically only WT appears. WT corresponds to Performance White Clearcoat. Pre 1970 Lincolns can be problematic due to same names with different codes.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
