Your Paint Color Profile

1947/JHY - Caspian Blue Pearl

The Look

This color defines the early years of the LR2. It is a deep, nautical shade that leans into the sophisticated side of the brand rather than the mud-splattered one. Because your car has been on the road since 2008, the original finish has likely weathered a fair amount of sun and rain. This means a fresh coat might look a little more saturated than the rest of the body. It is a rare color to see today, which makes keeping it crisp even more important for the value of the vehicle.

Technical Details

This is a pearl finish, not a simple solid blue. Inside the liquid, there are tiny mica flakes that reflect light to give the paint its depth. The challenge with pearls is that if those flakes settle at the bottom of the container, the color will look dull or flat once it dries. You have to get those minerals moving to ensure the repair matches the shimmering quality of the factory finish. If you apply it too heavily in one spot, the pearls can bunch up and create dark blotches.

Best Practices

Before you spray or dab Land-Rover Caspian Blue Pearl (check for code 1947/JHY), you need to shake it for at least 60 seconds to suspend the pearl particles. You will find your paint code on the black manufacturer sticker located on the driver's side door jamb. Always test the color on the included card before you touch the car to see how the pearls lay down. Work in a Garage or the Shade to prevent the sun from forcing the paint to dry too fast. Apply thin layers and keep the container moving to avoid build-up. Allow a longer drying time between coats to let the metallic pigments settle naturally.

How to Find Your Land-Rover's Color Code

Later model Land Rovers have paint codes on the drivers door jamb. Older models usually have them under the front hood on the radiator support. Codes may appear as short alphanumeric strings like LRC961 or HAF; both can refer to the same color on one vehicle. Example: LRC961 HAF corresponds to Epsom Green Clearcoat. Labels may show either LRC961 or HAF. On older cars, locations include both the drivers door jamb and the radiator support.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
