The Look

Back in the early 2000s, Kia was beginning to experiment with luxury, and this finish was the crown jewel of that effort. Whether you are driving the stately Amanti or a mid-size cruiser like the Optima or Magentis, this color was designed to give those cars a more expensive, sophisticated presence than the standard fleet whites. It is a warm, creamy white that trades the sterile look of a base model for a deep, liquid glow. Since your car has been on the road for nearly two decades, the original finish has likely developed its own character from the sun, so your main goal is recapturing ? lustre without making the repair look like a bright white bandage.

Technical Details

You are working with a tricoat, which is the most complex finish in the paint world. Unlike a standard solid color, Kia White Pearl II Tricoat (check for code U3) relies on a three-part system: a solid base, a translucent pearl mid-coat, and a clear topcoat. The "pearl" effect is created by tiny mica flakes in that middle layer that catch the light. The risk here is depth; if you apply too much of the pearl layer, the repair will look too yellow or dark compared to the rest of the car. If you apply too little, it will look flat and won't match the shimmering "flop" of the surrounding panels.

Best Practices

To find your confirmation, look for the identification plate located on the driver's side door jamb; that is where Kia hides the code. Before you start, you must shake your container for at least a full minute to ensure the mica flakes are suspended evenly. If you are using a spray, keep the container moving in steady, overlapping passes to avoid "puddling" the pearl. Most importantly, use the mid-coat sparingly. Test the color on the included card by layering the base and pearl until you see the right match. Between each layer, give the paint plenty of drying time so the chemicals can settle correctly. Work in a cool Garage or a spot of deep Shade to keep the surface from getting too hot, which can cause the finish to dry unevenly.

How to Find Your Kia's Color Code

Kia codes are easy to find as they are always on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: B3. Example mapping: B3 Mica Blue Metallic Clearcoat. Same Color Code, Different Name: Kia, like all manufacturers, uses the exact same color across many models and then will have a different color name for each model. This is why the color code is so important to order the correct paint. For example, B3, above we call Mica Blue Metallic Clearcoat. It could also be called Blue Clearcoat, Light Mist Clearcoat, etc.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can.
