Your Paint Color Profile

B1 - Steel Blue Metallic

The Look

The Rio was a punchy little car that put Kia on the map for many people, and this muted, grayish-blue served as its practical uniform. Since your car has likely been on the road for over twenty years, the original finish has survived plenty of sun and road salt. This shade is a master of disguise; it hides road grime better than a deep navy but offers more personality than a standard silver. It reflects the era of early 2000s efficiency-sensible, durable, and ready to work.

Technical Details

This is a true metallic finish, which means it relies on tiny flakes to give the surface its depth. These flakes are heavy and love to sink to the bottom of your container. If you do not mix them thoroughly, you might end up with a color that looks too dark or lacks its signature shimmer. Metallic paints also carry a risk of mottling, which looks like dark stripes or spots on the surface. This happens if the paint is applied too heavily in one spot, causing the flakes to bunch together instead of laying flat.

Best Practices

Before you spray or dab Kia Steel Blue Metallic (check for code B1), you need to shake it for at least 60 seconds to wake up those metallic particles. You can find your paint code on the silver or black sticker inside the driver's side door jamb. To get an even look without those metallic dark spots, always keep the container moving in steady, overlapping passes. If you are using a pen or brush, use light strokes rather than heavy globs. Most importantly, test the color on the included card to see how it reacts to the light in your garage or shade before you touch the car.

ensuring the right match

How to Find Your Kia's Color Code

Kia codes are easy to find as they are always on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: B3. Example mapping: B3 Mica Blue Metallic Clearcoat. Same Color Code, Different Name: Kia, like all manufacturers, uses the exact same color across many models and then will have a different color name for each model. This is why the color code is so important to order the correct paint. For example, B3, above we call Mica Blue Metallic Clearcoat. It could also be called Blue Clearcoat, Light Mist Clearcoat, etc.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
