It is a mature shade that avoids the loud, flashy nature of a sports car red. Instead, it offers a sophisticated depth that hides road grime better than lighter colors. Since your Kia has been on the road for a while, you may notice the original finish has lost some of its depth. This color relies on its inner glow to look its best, so a fresh touch-up can truly bring that character back to life.

Technical Details

This is a true metallic finish, which means the secret is in the tiny flakes suspended in the liquid. These flakes are what give the paint its shimmer, but they are also your biggest challenge. If you apply the paint too heavily, the flakes will sink and bunch up, making the repair look darker or muddy compared to the rest of the door. The goal is to keep those flakes laying flat and even so they catch the light correctly. Because red pigments are naturally more transparent, expect to apply several thin layers rather than trying to hide the damage in one go.

Best Practices

You will find your factory ID sticker located on the driver-side door jamb; look for the two-digit identifier near the bottom. Before you spray or dab Kia Claret Red Metallic (check for code 7P), you need to shake it for 60 seconds. This is non-negotiable for metallic paints because the flakes settle at the bottom of the container. Test the color on the included card to ensure the metallic density looks right before moving to the vehicle. When applying, keep the container moving and work in light, even passes. Allow plenty of drying time between these layers to prevent the paint from sagging. Kia codes are easy to find as they are always on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: B3. Example mapping: B3 Mica Blue Metallic Clearcoat. Same Color Code, Different Name: Kia, like all manufacturers, uses the exact same color across many models and then will have a different color name for each model. This is why the color code is so important to order the correct paint. For example, B3, above we call Mica Blue Metallic Clearcoat. It could also be called Blue Clearcoat, Light Mist Clearcoat, etc.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can.
