Your Paint Color Profile

S2C - Medium Gray

The Look

You likely see this color every day on your Elantra or Sonata. It was the "just right" neutral for Hyundai between 2014 and 2020, offering more character than a flat silver without the high maintenance of a deep black. Since your car has probably been on the road for several years, it has likely picked up its fair share of road salt and sun, making this a very common color for touch-ups. It is a dependable, professional shade that defines the modern look of the ix35 and Creta.

Technical Details

This finish is a metallic, which means it relies on tiny flakes to create that signature shimmer. If you apply the paint too heavily in one pass, these flakes can bunch up and create dark, uneven patches. Because this is not a solid color, the way the light hits the repair depends entirely on how evenly you lay it down. You will also need a clear coat to bring back the factory shine once you are finished, as the base color alone will look dull once the drying time has passed.

Best Practices

You can find your paint code on the manufacturer's sticker located inside the driver's side door jamb. Before you spray or dab Hyundai Medium Gray (check for code S2C), you need to shake it for 60 seconds. This ensures those metallic particles are fully mixed into the liquid and won't settle at the bottom. Always test the color on the included card to make sure the flake density matches your car's current look. When applying, keep the container moving to avoid build-up and work in a garage or the shade to prevent the metal from getting too hot while you work.

ensuring the right match

How to Find Your Hyundai's Color Code

Hyundai paint codes are normally on the drivers door jamb; some models hide the color code in the engine compartment. Typical format: 3E which corresponds to: Blue Onyx Metallic Clearcoat. Some later Hyundais use a three character code. A paint can be S3; this is actually the same as S3B. Same color code, different name: the same paint may be used across models, e.g., 3E as Blue Onyx Metallic Clearcoat, Blue Clearcoat, or Ocean Blue Clearcoat.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
