Your Paint Color Profile

UDK - Blue Ocean Metallic

The Look

This color is a rare bird from the 2012 model year, primarily found on the Tucson. It is a deep, sophisticated blue that sits right on the edge of navy until the light reveals its depth. Since your Tucson has likely spent a decade facing the sun and road debris, you are probably dealing with minor chips or scratches that stand out against this dark background. Restoring this finish brings back the character of the car, as it was one of the more refined options Hyundai offered during that short production window.

Technical Details

This is a metallic finish, which means it relies on tiny flakes to catch the light. The biggest challenge with metallics is mottling, where those flakes cluster together and create dark, uneven spots. If you apply the paint too heavily in one area, the metallic particles sink and lose their sparkle, making the repair look like a dull smudge. You want a consistent, even distribution so that the repair catches the light at the same angle as the original factory finish.

Best Practices

You can find your paint information on the VIN sticker inside the driver's side door jamb. Before you spray or dab Hyundai Blue Ocean Metallic (check for code UDK), you need to shake the container for at least 60 seconds to ensure the flakes are not sitting at the bottom. Do not skip this step, or the color will look flat. Test the color on the included card to see how the metallic behaves before you touch the car. Keep the container moving to prevent the paint from pooling, and give each layer plenty of drying time to ensure the finish remains level and crisp.

How to Find Your Hyundai's Color Code

Hyundai paint codes are normally on the drivers door jamb; some models hide the color code in the engine compartment. Typical format: 3E which corresponds to: Blue Onyx Metallic Clearcoat. Some later Hyundais use a three character code. A paint can be S3; this is actually the same as S3B. Same color code, different name: the same paint may be used across models, e.g., 3E as Blue Onyx Metallic Clearcoat, Blue Clearcoat, or Ocean Blue Clearcoat.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
