Your Paint Color Profile

98600BB - Aqua Pearl

The Look

Since your bike has been on the road for thirty years, the original finish has lived a full life. This color was a 1994 standout that appeared on everything from the Fat Boy to the first-year Road King. It captures a specific moment in the nineties when Harley-Davidson leaned into cleaner, oceanic tones to balance out all that chrome. It is not just a blue or a green; it is a deep, shifting hue that provides a cool depth you simply do not see on the modern production line.

Technical Details

Because this is a pearl finish, it relies on tiny mica particles to catch the light and create that signature shimmer. This creates a beautiful color shift as you walk around the bike, but it also means the finish is sensitive to how thick you apply it. If you apply the paint too heavily in one spot, the mica can "clump," making the repair look darker or muddier than the rest of the tank. You want to build the color in thin, light layers to mimic the factory depth without creating metallic spots.

Best Practices

Before you spray or dab Harley-Davidson Aqua Pearl (check for code 98600BB), you need to shake it for at least 60 seconds. This is the only way to ensure those mica flakes are suspended evenly instead of sitting at the bottom of the container. You will usually find your paint code on a sticker near the steering head on the frame or the down tube, though a dealer can always verify it via your VIN. Test the color on the included card first to see how well it matches your bike's current level of sun-fade. When applying, keep the container moving to avoid puddling the pearl in one area, and give it plenty of drying time between layers.

How to Find Your Harley-Davidson's Color Code

A color code is unlikely to appear on a Harley Davidson; often only the color name is listed. The code can be determined by Harley-Davidson. If there is no color code, the relevant reference is the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number. Finding a code on the bike is uncommon, so identification typically relies on Harley-Davidson or, failing a code, the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) formula.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
