Your Paint Color Profile

YB6/YB - Caspian Black

The Look

This color was at the forefront when the G80 and G90 transitioned from the Hyundai nameplate into their own standalone luxury identity. On a flagship sedan, this shade serves as the suit and tie of the brand. It is a deep, formal black that maintains a heavy presence on the road, but it is not a flat or simple color. Because your car was built during the initial launch year of the Genesis brand, this paint was designed to compete with the deep, liquid-like finishes of high-end European rivals.

Technical Details

This is a pearl finish, which means it relies on microscopic flakes to catch the light and create depth. These flakes are heavier than the black pigment and will naturally settle at the bottom of the container while it sits in your garage. If you skip the mixing process, the repair will look like a flat, muddy black that lacks the original glow of the panel. Pearl finishes can also change shade depending on how thick you apply the paint; putting it on too heavy can cause the flakes to clump, making the touched-up spot look darker than the surrounding area.

Best Practices

You will find your paint code on the VIN sticker located inside the driver's side door jamb. Before you spray or dab Genesis Caspian Black (check for code YB6/YB), you need to shake the container for 60 seconds to ensure the pearl flakes are fully suspended. Always test the color on the included card to verify the density of the pearl before you move to the car. Whether you are using a brush or a nozzle, keep the container moving to ensure the flakes distribute evenly. Allow for a longer drying time between light layers to prevent the paint from pooling or sagging.

How to Find Your Genesis's Color Code

Genesis codes are relatively easy to find as they are normally on the drivers door jamb, which is the usual location. Some Hyundai models do manage to hide their color codes in the engine compartment, so if it is not on the drivers door jamb, finding it can be tougher. The typical color code format is: 3E, which corresponds to: Blue Onyx Metallic Clearcoat. Some later Hyundais use a three character code.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
