Your Paint Color Profile

P85/PRP - True Red

The Look

This is the quintessential red of the mid-nineties. It appeared exclusively during 1996, the twilight years for the brand, and it gave cars like the Eagle Talon and Summit a high-energy look that still draws the eye today. It isn't a subtle shade; it is a pure, punchy pigment that demands attention. Because your Eagle has likely spent nearly three decades on the road, you should expect your original paint to be a little more tired than what is inside your new container. Fresh red always has a bite that aged paint lacks.

Technical Details

You are working with a solid finish, meaning there are no metallic flakes or pearls hidden in the mix. This makes the color deep and vibrant, but it also means there is nothing to hide imperfections. Solid reds are the most prone to UV damage and oxidation, often turning slightly pink or chalky over time. When you apply this fresh paint, the richness of the new coat will stand out against the weathered sections, so focus on dabbing or spraying your edges carefully in the shade to get the best result.

Best Practices

Before you spray or dab Eagle True Red (check for code P85/PRP), you need to shake it for 60 seconds. You can usually find that code stamped on the passenger side of the firewall or near the strut tower under the hood. To ensure the color is a match for your specific car's current state, test the color on the included card first. When applying, keep the container moving to avoid heavy build-up and wait for the recommended drying time between each thin layer. If you are using a pen, use light strokes to prevent the new pigment from looking too thick compared to the factory finish.

How to Find Your Eagle's Color Code

Where to find the Eagle paint color code: Determined directly by Eagle. When a color code is not present, the designated reference is the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number. Practically, the source for the code is Eagle; lacking a code, identification proceeds by the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) formula number. This outlines that Eagle handles color codes, while PPG or Dupont (Axalta) formulas apply if a code is absent.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
