If you are working on a 1992 or 1993 model, you are dealing with one of the most distinctive shades from the short-lived Eagle era. This color was a hallmark for the Talon and the Vision, capturing that early nineties transition from basic solids to high-depth specialty finishes. In the shade, it carries a heavy, dark presence that can be mistaken for black or a deep burgundy. Once you move the car into the light, the purple undertones wake up. Since your Eagle has likely spent three decades on the road, the original finish might have shifted slightly toward a flatter maroon, but a fresh application will bring back that rich, royal depth that defined the brand's premium aesthetic.

Technical Details

This is a pearl finish, which is significantly more complex than a standard metallic. While metallic finishes use tiny flakes of aluminum to reflect light, pearls use ceramic mica crystals to refract it. This is why the color seems to shift and glow as you walk around the car. The risk here is the suspension of those crystals. Because they are heavier than the pigment, they tend to sink to the bottom of the reservoir. If you do not mix the paint thoroughly, you will end up applying a dark, flat purple that looks like a bruise rather than a factory finish. Before you spray or dab Eagle Plum Pearl (check for code R12/PMC), you need to shake the container for at least sixty seconds to ensure the mica is evenly distributed.

Best Practices

To find your confirmation, look for the metal identification plate located on the firewall, usually toward the center or passenger side. On some models, you might find a sticker in the engine bay near the radiator support. Before you touch the car, test the color on the included card to see how the pearl settles. When you are ready to apply, work in a protected garage rather than under direct sunlight. Keep the container moving at all times to prevent the pearl from pooling in one spot, which causes dark "mottled" patches. Give the paint plenty of drying time between layers. Because this is a pearl, thin and even applications will always look better than one heavy coat.
