 Help on bumper paint repair! (currently 1 views) |

I ran into my girlfriend's 2000 Honda Civic (YR525M-L Titanium Metallic Clearcoat) at a stop sign and messed up her bumper. There is no damage to the bumper itself, but the paint has chipped off and scratched. Here are some pics of the damage:
 
As you can see the paint has come off all around that big chip and there a scratches below it. The bumper pressed in and the paint cracked but the bumper is ok.
I don't want to get it professionally done because it will cost more money than I have so I looked around and found this site. After reading everything I could find I decided on getting the 1 oz. cap-brush bottle of basecoat/clearcoat because the damage is bigger than what the pen is recommended for.
Here is where i need help, the bumper is rubberized (it's not metal or fiberglass and it feels plasticy, but i'm unfamilar with types of bumpers) and I read that there is special things you need to buy and do to make the paint stick to rubber. (The rubber primer and the addhesion promoter) But I'm unsure whether the primer has come off and I don't know how to tell.
Since I don't need to spray the paint on, will I have to use the rubberized primer or will the regular (less expensive) primer work?
Do I need to buy/use the addhesion promoter?
Will 1 oz. be enough?
Also, the thing I need help on most is making sure I have the right procedure:
1. Wash area with detergent. (What type of detergent?)
2. Use wax and grease remover. (Do I need this?)
3. Sand scratches, chips, and cracked paint smooth. (What degree
sandpaper? How will I know when I have sanded enough/too much?)
4. Apply layer of primer. (Just one layer? Does it matter if it overlaps old
paint?)
5. Apply base coat. (How many times do I do this? Will it matter if it overlaps
old paint?)
5. Apply clear coat. (How many times do I do this? Will it matter if it overlaps
old paint?)
6. Buff with Rubbing Compound. (Do I keep doing it until I'm sattisfied? Can
I do it too much?)
Am I missing any steps? Do I have any wrong? Am I buying all the right products? I really need help with this, please!

| Yes rubberized bumpers need bull dog and rubberized primer. We have some excellent directions on our site athttps://www.paintscratch.com so no need to print them again here. |
