Find Your Mitsubishi Lancer Paint Code

Mitsubishi paint codes are on a tag in the firewall area of the car, not on an exterior panel. The color code sits at the bottom mid-left part of that tag. Codes include letters, dashes, and numbers. The code R71 corresponds to Passion Red Clearcoat. R71 may be called Passion Red Clearcoat on some models. R71 may be called Red Clearcoat or Speed Red Clearcoat on others. Model marketing names can vary even for the same code.

The Color Breakdown

Mitsubishi didn't just release a car; they released a rolling prism. With 59 recorded colors for the Lancer, it's clear the design team really went for it. Whether your ride is dressed in the deep, mystical Ruri Blue Pearl, the rugged Timber Green Pearl, or the neon-adjacent Rotor Glow Metallic, you aren't just driving a sedan-you're driving a statement. We even see some unique "Two-Tone" combinations in the archives, proving that for the Lancer, one color sometimes just wasn't enough.

What to Watch For

Now, here is the honest truth from under the hood: Mitsubishi paint is known for being a little "soft." This means your Lancer is a bit of a magnet for tiny rock chips, especially on the front edge of the hood. You might also notice the clear coat starting to get a little shy on the roof or trunk lid if it spends too much time in the sun.

First things first: you need your code. Don't go looking in the door jamb like most cars; the Lancer likes to hide its "birth certificate" on a metal plate located right in the center of the firewall (that metal wall at the very back of the engine bay). It might be a bit dusty back there, so give it a quick wipe to reveal that three-character code.

Driveway Repair Tip

Because so many Lancer colors-like Octane Blue Pearl or Galaxy White Pearl-feature heavy metallic or pearl effects, your secret weapon is the "The Shake." When you get your touch-up bottle, shake it for a full two minutes. You want to hear that little metal agitator ball working overtime to wake up all those tiny sparkles that have settled at the bottom.

When you apply the paint, think "micro-layers." Instead of trying to fill a chip with one big glob, dab a tiny bit in, let it dry for 15 minutes, and come back for a second pass. These complex pearls require patience to get the depth right, but staying thin and steady will give you a finish that looks like it belongs on the road, not in a repair manual.
