How to Find Your 1995 Hummer's Color Code

Hummer did not standardize the location of the color plate, so paint codes can be hard to locate. Across years they used many different spots. Usual places: the glove box or the spare tire well; if not there, it could be elsewhere. The code itself may appear as 51/WA316N, often preceded by BC/CC (e.g., BC/CC 51 or BC/CC 316N). Two tone labels can show as BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N (Upper Color and Lower Color).

1995 Hummer Background Info

The 1995 Hummer Vibe

1995 was the peak of "The Green Wave," and nothing said you owned the suburban jungle quite like an AM General Hummer parked across two spots at the mall. While the rest of the world was driving teals and forest greens, Hummer owners were leaning into that heavy-duty aesthetic. Our database shows 10 distinct flavors for this year, ranging from the quintessential Tan (28326) that reminded everyone of Operation Desert Storm, to the surprisingly flashy Green Metallic (47945) and Dark Cherry (52082). It was a time of excess, and having a 6,000-pound tank in Poppy Red (74575) was the ultimate mid-90s power move.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to the heart of The Peeling Era. By 1995, the factory had fully committed to the Basecoat/Clearcoat system, but the chemistry hadn't quite caught up to the ambition. These Hummers were built to survive a war zone, but they weren't always built to survive the midday sun. You're likely dealing with delamination-that's painter-speak for when the clear coat decides it's done being friends with the color underneath and starts flaking off like a bad sunburn. If your Silver Metallic (36190) or Dark Blue Poly (19629) looks like it has a skin condition on the hood or roof, that's the UV rays winning the battle against 90s clear coat technology.

Restoration Tip

When you see the clear coat starting to lift around a stone chip, don't wait for the wind to do the rest of the work. On a 1995 Hummer, once that clear starts to "ghost" (turn white and lift), it'll peel back in sheets. Seal your chips immediately. If you're doing a repair, you need to "feather" the edges of the remaining clear coat with fine-grit sandpaper until you can't feel the ridge with your fingernail. If you just spray over a hard edge, the new paint will lift the old clear right off the panel. Get a solid sealer on there to lock down the edges before you lay your basecoat, or you'll be chasing a peeling ghost for the next five years.
