Your Paint Color Profile

L8Z8 - Platinum

The Look

Your 2015 Golf carries an understated shade that defines professional sophistication. This color was a brief chapter for Volkswagen, offering a refined grey that sits between a bright silver and a deep charcoal. It is a practical choice for a daily driver because it masks road dust and light rain spots better than almost any other finish in the lineup. Since your car has likely spent years out in the elements, the original finish might have shifted, so focus on a clean repair to blend the new paint with the aged surface.

Technical Details

This is a metallic finish, which means it relies on tiny flakes suspended in the paint to catch the light. While these flakes provide depth, they are also prone to a phenomenon called mottling. If you apply the paint too heavily or unevenly, those flakes will clump together and create dark, shadowy patches that look like stripes or clouds on your bodywork. You want to keep your layers light and consistent so the metallic particles settle flat and reflect light in a uniform direction.

Best Practices

You can find your build sticker in the trunk area, near the spare tire well or printed on a label in your service book. Before you spray or dab Volkswagen Platinum (check for code L8Z8), you need to shake it for 60 seconds to ensure the metallic flakes are integrated. Test the color on the included card to verify the shade before touching your car. When applying, keep the container moving to avoid build-up in one spot. Allow for drying time between light coats, and perform the work in a garage or a patch of shade to prevent the sun from drying the paint before it can level out.

How to Find Your Volkswagen's Color Code

Volkswagen paint codes can be difficult to find. Most are located around the spare tire area, printed on a paper color id tag that is guaranteed to fall off and disappear just when needed; not on a metal plate in the driver door jamb. Typical format: LD7X/2R (two codes: LD7X and 2R). LD7X corresponds to Platinum Gray Metallic Clearcoat; 2R is also used for the same color. Really old Volkswagen can be nearly impossible to figure out.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
