Your Paint Color Profile

M3W/E4 - Carmon Red Metallic

The Look

If you drive a mid-2000s Porsche, you know that this color is the sophisticated choice. While Guards Red belongs on a poster, this wine-inspired shade belongs on the road. It was a staple for the 911, Cayenne, and Boxster during a legendary era of design. Because your car has likely been on the road since 2004, the paint has developed a history of its own. It is a mature, deep red that manages to look like a bright cherry in the afternoon sun and a moody, dark burgundy once you pull it into the garage or under the shade.

Technical Details

This is a metallic finish that behaves much like a pearl. It relies on tiny flakes to create that signature color shift between light and shadow. The challenge with metallic paint is that these flakes are heavy and sink to the bottom of the container quickly. If they aren't distributed evenly, you will see mottling, which looks like dark clouds or uneven stripes across the repair area. Before you spray or dab Porsche Carmon Red Metallic (check for code M3W/E4), you need to shake it for at least two minutes to get the flakes back into the flow.

Best Practices

Confirm your match by looking for the white paper identification sticker. You will typically find it under the front hood or tucked inside the first few pages of your maintenance manual. Once you are ready, test the color on the included card to see how it reacts to the light. Whether you are using a nozzle or a brush, keep the container moving to prevent the metallic particles from clumping. Apply the paint in thin layers rather than one heavy coat, and allow plenty of drying time between each pass to ensure the flakes stay exactly where you put them.

How to Find Your Porsche's Color Code

Porsche paint codes are often hard to find. They are usually near the spare tire area, printed on a paper color ID tag that may fall off with time. The owner's manual for some models sometimes lists paint codes. Porsche uses the same color across different models, and the same code may appear under different color names. Codes can be four characters starting with L or three characters, using letters and numbers.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
