Your Paint Color Profile

4S/6390 - Dark Titanium Pearl Metallic

The Look

Your 1989 Lincoln represents a specific moment in luxury design when the brand traded sharp chrome edges for a more aerodynamic, tech-heavy appearance. This shade is a deep, architectural grey that carries a lot of visual weight. It makes a Town Car or a Mark VII look substantial without the maintenance headaches of a pure black finish. While it hides road dust well, a thirty-year-old finish often suffers from oxidation. You are likely dealing with some paint fade, so focus on how the light hits the repair area compared to the original panels.

Technical Details

This is a pearl metallic finish. It relies on a blend of tiny aluminum flakes and mica particles to create depth. The main risk here is mottling, which shows up as dark splotches or uneven stripes in the finish. If you apply the paint in thick coats or stop moving your hand while applying, those heavy particles clump together. This ruins the way the light bounces off the surface. To get a uniform look, you need a consistent flow and a steady hand.

Best Practices

Before you apply Lincoln Dark Titanium Pearl Metallic (look for code 4S/6390 on the driver's side door jamb), shake the container for at least two minutes. The pearl particles sink to the bottom and will stay there unless you mix them. Test the color on the included card to see how the flakes lay down before you touch the car. Work in a garage or the shade so the metal stays cool. Keep the container moving in even, overlapping passes. Give each thin layer plenty of drying time. This allows the mica to stay suspended in the finish rather than sinking, which preserves the correct 1989 glow.

How to Find Your Lincoln's Color Code

Lincoln color codes are always on the drivers door jamb. On the color plate, EX PT (for Exterior Paint) appears, with the paint code located above or below; sometimes the actual color is embossed on the plate and not where expected. Typical format: WT/M6640, though M6640 is rarely shown and typically only WT appears. WT corresponds to Performance White Clearcoat. Pre 1970 Lincolns can be problematic due to same names with different codes.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
