Your Paint Color Profile

527 - Harvest Gold Poly

The Look

Your 1974 Jeep has seen decades of trails and sunshine, and this color is a nostalgic bridge to the rugged style of the AMC era. Whether it is on a CJ-5 or a classic Wagoneer, the earthy, golden hue feels right at home in the outdoors. It is a warm, vintage shade that handles trail dust and road grime well, making it a forgiving choice for a vehicle meant to be driven. Because this color was only used for a single year across All Models, maintaining it is a way to preserve the specific character of that mid-seventies transition.

Technical Details

The "Poly" in the name indicates a metallic finish, which gives the surface depth and shimmer. However, metallics require more attention than solid colors. The tiny flakes inside have a habit of settling at the bottom of the container, and if they aren't distributed in a uniform way as you work, the repair can look patchy or dark in some spots. I recommend working in a garage or the shade rather than under direct sun to ensure you have enough time to manage the flow without the paint drying too fast.

Best Practices

Before you spray or dab Jeep Harvest Gold Poly (check for code 527 on your firewall or the driver's door jamb), you need to shake it for at least 60 seconds. This ensures the metallic particles are mixed so you don't get stripes in the finish. Always test the color on the included card before touching the vehicle to confirm the match. When applying, keep the container moving across the surface to prevent the flakes from pooling. Once you are finished, allow plenty of drying time before judging the final appearance, as metallics often change their look as they set.

How to Find Your Jeep's Color Code

Jeep codes are difficult to find. In the good old days, they hid them on top of the radiator support, under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS; only BS is the color code (also QBS, PBS, TBS, etc.). The first letter is a "Year Code". BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code. Lately, Jeep lists just BS.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
