Your Paint Color Profile

B-38 - Capitol Blue

The Look

This color is a time capsule from 1986. Honda offered it for a single year, which makes your car a rare survivor from the decade of pop-up headlights and lightweight fun. It defines the first-generation CRX and gives the chassis a bold, classic presence that modern cars struggle to replicate. Since your car has faced decades of sun and road debris, this paint is the key to restoring the high-contrast look that made these 80s hatches famous. It is a pure blue that looks best when the body lines are sharp and the surface is clean.

Technical Details

This is a solid finish. It does not use metallic flakes or pearls to create its depth. The benefit is a dense, consistent color that is easy to apply because you do not have to worry about flakes settling at odd angles or looking blotchy. The trade-off is that solid blues show everything. If your surface has tiny scratches or ripples, the paint will highlight them rather than hide them. Because there is no sparkle to distract the eye, you need to ensure your repair area is smooth before you start.

Best Practices

Before you spray or dab Honda Capitol Blue (check for code B-38), you need to shake the container for a full minute to get the pigments moving. You will find your paint code on the identification sticker inside the driver's side door jamb. Always test the color on the included card to verify the match against your existing finish. When you start, keep the container moving in steady passes to avoid thick spots or runs. Work in the shade of a garage and give the surface plenty of drying time before you add another coat.

How to Find Your Honda's Color Code

Honda Color Codes are usually found on the Color ID Tag in the driver-side door jamb. It is typically a rectangular label, and the Color Code is usually 2 letters plus 3 digits with a suffix letter, such as NH731P, B92P, YR525M, or NH603P-1. Some Hondas also require the Factory Code for the closest match; check the Color ID Tag for a suffix like -1, -3, -4, or -15, or use the 11th digit of the VIN visible through the windshield on the driver-side dashboard.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
