Your Paint Color Profile

LL-1 (1964) - Royal Turquoise Poly

The Look

Chrysler released this deep, aquatic shade during a year when their "Letter Series" cars like the 300K were the undisputed kings of the road. It is not a bright, tropical teal. This color has a serious, darkened depth that makes a Newport or New Yorker look expensive and substantial. Since your Chrysler has likely spent decades in the sun, you are probably dealing with some level of finish aging, but this deep pigment holds its character better than most mid-century blues.

Technical Details

The "Poly" in the name is short for Polychromatic, which is the vintage way of saying this is a metallic finish. This is where things get tricky for a DIY project. Metallic paints look great because the tiny flakes catch the light, but they are prone to mottling. If you apply the paint too heavily, those flakes cluster together and create dark, blotchy patches or uneven stripes. Consistency is the only way to avoid a messy look.

Best Practices

You will find your factory identification stamped on the metal fender tag under the hood, typically located on the driver side inner fender or the cowl. Before you spray or dab Chrysler Royal Turquoise Poly (check for code LL-1 (1964)), you must shake the container for at least sixty seconds to distribute the metallic flakes. Test the color on the included card to ensure the match is right for your car's current condition. Whether you use a nozzle or a brush, apply thin layers and allow plenty of drying time between each one. Keep the container moving at a constant speed in the garage or shade to ensure the metallic finish looks uniform across the repair area.

How to Find Your Chrysler's Color Code

Chrysler paint codes can be difficult to find. In the good old days, they were on top of the radiator support, often hidden under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS, etc., with the first letter as a confusing "Year Code." BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
