Your Paint Color Profile

TT-1 (1963) - Claret Poly

The Look

This color captures the transition of the early sixties from flamboyant fins to executive elegance. When you apply Chrysler Claret Poly (check for code TT-1 (1963)), you are reviving a deep, wine-pressed maroon that defined the 1963 lineup. It was a heavyweight choice for the Imperial and New Yorker, but it gave the Newport and 300 series a grounded, expensive presence. Because your car has spent decades exposed to the elements, the original finish has likely shifted toward a flatter, darker tone, so expect your fresh touch-up to look slightly more vibrant until it fully cures.

Technical Details

This is a metallic finish, which means the paint is packed with fine aluminum flakes. These flakes provide the depth and shimmer that make the color pop in the sun, but they are also heavy. If the paint is applied too thick in one spot, the metal particles will bunch together and create dark, blotchy patches known as mottling. To keep the finish even, you must avoid heavy "wet" coats. Building the color in light, thin layers ensures the flakes lay down flat and uniform across the surface.

Best Practices

Locate your paint code on the metal fender tag, which is usually screwed to the driver's side inner fender under the hood or on the radiator support. Before you start, shake your container for at least two full minutes to lift those settled metallic flakes off the bottom. Test the color on the included card to see how the metallic particles react to your hand speed. Whether you use a nozzle or a brush, keep the container moving constantly to prevent the paint from pooling. Work in a cool garage or the shade, as direct sunlight will shorten the drying time too much and cause the metallic flakes to stand up straight rather than laying flat.

How to Find Your Chrysler's Color Code

Chrysler paint codes can be difficult to find. In the good old days, they were on top of the radiator support, often hidden under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS, etc., with the first letter as a confusing "Year Code." BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code.

Will absolutely order from this company again.

After ordering touch-up paint from Lexus I was still waiting for it a month later. If they'd told me upfront it would take that long I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. Paint Scratch was recommended by a friend who restores cars. Easy ordering, fair price and fast shipping. The color match is great especially considering my car is a 2012. Will absolutely order from this company again. Reason I chose this business: Lexus collision repair and a local collision repair. Will use paint less dent removal and touch up chipped paint myself. Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4" long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can. Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans for automotive restoration. Thank you Paint Scratch.
